About This Piece: Ramage painted at least three miniatures of Washington: this one; another, at the University of Vermont, Burlington; and one in a private collection.

John Ramage was an Irish American artist, goldsmith, patroller, and second lieutenant. He was best known for painting portrait miniatures, and being the first artist to paint George Washington while serving as the President of the United States.
